I Am a Mediocre Case of 9 to 5

I've been postponing a real entry all this while by putting up stuff like that fun fun commercial, and that video about the non-muslim who wants to wear Hijab. You should watch that. How often does a non-muslim wanna touch a Hijab? Let alone wearing it.

I can't put off writing a real post any longer. I just don't have much to say lately because working keeps me occupied and tired throughout the week. And I feel like a robot. Robots do not think. Robots do work. That's how it is with working. Most of the times anyway. Notice how many times I said work in the above?

Here's how my week goes like:

Wake up at 6.15am. Get ready, skip breakfast and head out to work. Stuck in traffic jam and sing Let's Dance super loud. Do work. Do work. Ladidadida. Lunch and gossip. Then back to work. Surf the net when there's no work. Get excited over Superbid Wednesday and cast worrying glances at the clock when daily meetings go on for too long. Do work. Do work. Rush back home at 5. Btw, 'rushing' takes approximately one hour. At home, walk through house in a blur and do activities which will later be forgotten due to temporary memory loss from exhaustion. Sleep at 11.30pm. I don't know how I manage, but I'll regret the morning after when obviously I'm sleep-deprived.

From all this, my hamsters suffer. Because I can't deal with another responsibility such as cleaning hamster farm & poo.

I'm just kidding, they get plenty of love. And when I'm too tired to monitor them roaming in their cute running ball, I let them free in my room, where they chew on my closet. And have more babies. I have alot to thank my hamsters.

On weekends, I prefer to take up space on the couch or stuck to the good ol computer chair and spend hours seeing how people live their lives. I know my days sound bleak, but it isn't, really.

I just didn't mention that on weekend nights, I'll be dragged off to another family soiree (<-- I like this word, swaa ray). We gossip, and laugh mad dogly and eat to our hearts content. At the end of the night, I can't even sleep.

One more thing that I didn't mention is that since my mom is a full-time homemaker, she'll be gearing up for a shopping trip on the weekends. And for those who don't know me, I respond to the word 'shopping' like a guy responds to the Pussycat Dolls. I don't have to explain myself here right?

Then there are other things such as home cooked food, comfy bed, comfy floor(in college we have cement as floors), Astro on standby, and of course 24 hours of fully functional internet connection. Plus, I've got time to indulge in my reading sessions whereby I've bought 11 fiction books in 2 months and read 7.

Sure, working may be draggy sometimes, but that's what's happened when you fall into a routine. And I know exactly what I need:

Why Would a Non-Muslim Wanna Wear Hijab?

I'd like to share this video with everyone who's visiting this blog. It's a little bit long for me but I have very short attention span so don't worry. A woman who's not muslim who likes wearing the hijab, explains why she wants to wear one. I find it really interesting. Without further ado.

Why Wear Hijab?

Note: Turns out she doesn't allow embedding on blogs etc, therefore you just gotta click on the link above that will take you to youtube.

How To Avoid Being a Robot/Zombie Bogged Down by the So-Called Working Life

There’s only 2 ways in which a normal human being can turn into a lifeless robot thing.

  1. A human dies, then resurrected using dark magic/ uber-advanced science ala cat woman.
  2. A human wakes up, eats, goes to work/go to college/go to school, gets stuck in traffic jam for hours, goes back home, sleep and does it everyday. Preferably for the rest of his/her life.

In case you’re wondering, I’m the 2nd category zombie. I’m tired of it, so I came up with these things which I think is an easy, surefire way to become human again! (Unless you are zombie category one, which cannot be helped even if you follow this diligently. Sorry.)

In traffic jams:
  1. Listen to Fly fm or any favorite radio station. Thank you Pagi Show & Rush Hour. I love you guys. Malaysia has the third highest number of .............WHAT???? Prize money is now up to RM 4400. It's driving me crazey okayy!
  2. Sing out loud to the songs you’re listening to. Ignore the cars bypassing you and ignore the stares from the people in those cars. This is the time to practice your karaoke so that next time you go for karaoke, you won't suck as much.

At work/college/school:

  1. Smile at everyone you have eye contact with. Otherwise it’s ok to be a robot here. Just stay out of trouble. I’m not about to tell people to sing out loud in the class/office or start throwing papers around or putting whoopie cushions on other’s seats.( Dunno if they got those things in this country?)

At home:

  1. Have enough sleep. This is my everyday motto.
  2. Watch your favorite comedy/cartoon series and laugh out loud at the jokes. Better yet, imitate them with exaggerated voices. (Word of caution: Don’t do this in front of parents or you’ll lose whatever little credibility you got especially if you’re the eldest in the family.)

Out and About:

  1. Look at colorful things. Better if they can be eaten.

I'm getting carried away.

2. Do something you like. And do it at least once a week. This is because, when things get too out of hand, at least there' s something to look forward to every week. For example, scrapbooking or cooking or swimming or kickboxing. Whatever rocks your boat, as long as it's relaxing.

So there you have it, ways to become human. Take note, especially those cupcakes. Yummilicious. Try them out, and tell me how it goes. They worked for me so there's no reason why they shouldn't work for you. Till then, Zai Jian! (translated: see ya soon!)

Handicapped

You know how in the morning on the way to work, you'd have to go through the pay toll?

And how you have to line up behind 100 cars if you don't have Touch n Go?

And how relieved you feel when it's finally your turn to pay?

And how you expect gloved woman's hands to take your coins?

....

Then how would you react when a hand with only one finger greets you? (Im not talking about middle finger rudeness, don't get me wrong.)

I hope you didn't flip like I did. I think I shivered and the lady realized. And I also took a few seconds too long to figure where am I supposed to put the coins. Then the one-fingered lady impatiently snatched the coins from my hand.

I didn't even know how she did it.

We all know it's not nice to stare, let alone to show obvious discomfort at abnormalities within the human body. I mean, come on, we all know that. But when something catches you off-guard, like how the hand caught me off-guard, can we blame ourselves for behaving the way we did?

I certainly didn't mean to stare. But to tell you the truth, I was somewhat shaken by that. All this time, I thought I had no aversion for the handicapped. I was feeling like the jerkiest person alive when I left the pay toll.

In the past, I've seen people without limbs, without a finger and sometimes with more than 5 fingers on each hand, and I didn't feel as shocked as I was with the one-fingered lady. Maybe because in the past I've prepared myself for these encounters, a minute or two before getting close.

When I left the pay toll, I was also thinking that the lady was used to seeing my kind of reaction, because she impatiently snatched the coins. She had a look in her face that said, pssshhhhh another one of those kinds...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sorry for the way I reacted. I'm amazed by your courage and perseverance. And how easy, conventional work can be unconventional and tricky. And how those stoopid staring people makes it altogether more uncomfortable. I know how you feel. It's like when people stare at a red pimple on my face like it's their business, or how kids point at my braces and say,"awat gigi ada had tu?" or "what's that"? Some of them even laughed.

I understand, and I'm sorry that for a minute there, I was one of those people. God bless you. I promise not to shiver next time.

I am a Friend..!!! [Dedicated to all Palestinians]

Things you can do to help them:

  1. Donate money through Islamic Relief Malaysia in collaboration with Utusan Malaysia. Please bear in mind that every little cent counts when everyone donates. Islamic Relief Malaysia Berhad Maybank account: 5621-4270- 8704 or CIMB account: 1259-0000-8040-58. Or go to their website http://www.irm.org.my

  2. Boycott American & Israeli products. I know this can be hard, but it's really worth the try. Listen to Mahathir people.

  3. Pray for the people of Palestine.

I don't wanna elaborate on this, I'd rather work fast; so, talking more about it wouldn't be necessary in my opinion. Besides, who needs more commentators when there's already plenty of good ones written by internet peeps?

Sarah wrote one.
Lucius Maximus did a thought provoking post.
Read the one by Dr Mahathir here.
Here's one by Sarah B.
You gotta read this post by Hazri. So far my fave.
Nadiah's take on Palestine from Egypt.
And by Kak Teh & Nam Ron
The picture in Lenny's is heart-wrenching.

If you don't already know Kenny Sia's blog style, then DONT read this.

So there you have it, a compilation of online thoughts of the attack on Palestine. I'm sure you can find more if you scour the net. This is only a sliver of thousands of entries out there. The ones I linked here are all written by Malaysian bloggers. Why only Malaysian? Because I'm Malaysian that's why.

Till then, don't forget to pray for the Palestinians. They need you.

One month of Internship

Hello--

I've gotten quite busy lately, especially since my internship started a month ago. I'm working 9 to 5 like a real adult. I felt really responsible and mature the first day to work for two particular reasons a) My parents were not there to see me off to work and b) I drove all the way to PJ by myself and didn't get lost.

So far work is good. Nothing too hard to handle. And I'm getting used to office politics and not jump whenever someone loses their temper and shout bloody murder. Apparently, it's perfectly normal to go berserk on somebody one second and patch things up over lunch. Very illuminating.

On other news, (you'll get tired of me now) I've finally gotten my hands on all the Twilight saga books. I searched high and low for those, and I had to keep my patience in check which wasn't that fun. I'm on to the third book now. Just enjoying it.

I gotta run, but I'll post again soon. Take care.
